If a loop processes n items with constant work per item, and you double n, what happens to the total work?

It doubles.

When each item in a loop requires a fixed amount of work, the total effort grows in direct proportion to how many items you have. If each item takes w units of work and there are n items, the total work is W = w * n. If you double the number of items to 2n, the total work becomes W' = w * (2n) = 2W. So the total work doubles. This is the essence of linear scaling: increasing the input size by a factor k increases the total work by the same factor k.

It quadruples.

It stays the same.

It halves.
